The Government's Alcohol Advisory Group is due to present its report to the Minister for Justice today.
The group was set up to examine the laws covering the sale and consumption of alcohol and how they can be more effective in tackling alcohol-related problems.
It was asked in particular to examine the increased availability of alcohol in supermarkets, convenience stores and petrol stations and the use of special alcohol promotions in such outlets.
A spokesman for Justice Minister Brian Lenihan says he will consider the report in full and will bring forward new legislation on foot of its recommendations.
The legislation is expected to be passed before the Dail breaks for the summer.
