The National Off Licence Association (NOffLA) Chairman, Jim McCabe has met with the new Minister for Justice, Mr Dermot Aherne TD to discuss our conerns regarding the proposed new licensing act.
Whilst we cannot divulge the discussions that took place, our Chairman Jim McCabe outlined a number of strong concerns and reservations we have about the new bill. In addition, he outlined our belief that if the Government is serious about tackling alcohol abuse in Ireland, they must urgently look at bringing in a mandatory ID card for anyone under the age of 23 and also to make staff training compulsory in order for any alcohol retailer to renew their licence.
The meeting was very constructive and we hope that the Minister takes on board the issues that we raised with him.
